An announcement at Summer Game Fest on Friday gave us a look at what Capcom is cooking up for Street Fighter 6’s next wave of DLC, which included the surprise reveal of Final Fantasy 7’s Tifa at the end. Though the news was leaked previously, her inclusion is still a big deal as a collaboration with Square Enix.
So what was behind Tifa’s inclusion in Street Fighter 6 anyway? Final Fantasy 7 Revelation director Naoku Hamaguchi shared a few comments on the subject during an interview with Maximilian Dood.
Perhaps this isn’t a big surprise, but Hamaguchi said a number of other companies have requested Tifa previously. However, Square Enix wanted to be careful with the character and “didn’t want to give her away so easily.” Street Fighter has prestige though, and it it’ll be a nice tie in with the upcoming launch of Final Fantasy 7 Revelation.
Hamaguchi explained:
“So, actually not just Street Fighter – we’ve had many different game IPs come asking for Tifa. We feel that Tifa is so beloved, loved by so many around the world. In that sense, we didn’t want to give her away so easily. But this kind of opportunity came at such a great timing as well. We are also looking for what other opportunities are there to mark this momentous occasion.”
Outside of Tifa, the next year of Street Fighter 6 DLC will include Bosch, Yasmine, and Arjun. You can check out the new trailer here.
