First revealed during Sony’s State of Play, many assumed the game was a console exclusive. That’s largely because PlayStation doesn’t show competitor logos during its showcases, a practice that remains a contentious topic among Xbox fans.

Not long ago, Matt Booty revealed that Xbox plans to show competitor logos during its own showcases. Personally, I’m not convinced that’s the right move, especially if Xbox wants to become the number one gaming platform by 2030.

Anyway, enough of me ranting; let’s talk about RuneScape.

For those unfamiliar, RuneScape began life as a browser-based point-and-click MMORPG back in 2001. Over the years, it evolved into two separate games, RuneScape 3 and OldSchool RuneScape. Yes, there are effectively two versions of RuneScape that coexist today, with OldSchool RuneScape generally being the more popular of the two.

Expanding beyond those games, Jagex released RuneScape: Dragonwilds into early access last year on Steam. However, it’s quite different from what you’d typically expect from RuneScape. Rather than a traditional MMORPG, Dragonwilds is much closer to a survival game like Valheim, and that’s certainly not a bad thing.

Fortunately for Xbox players, RuneScape: Dragonwilds launches on September 15, 2026, for Xbox Series X|S. Even better, it will support Xbox Play Anywhere, a feature that has genuinely influenced whether I buy certain games or not.

As a quick refresher, Xbox Play Anywhere means that if you buy the game on Xbox, you’ll also own it on PC. Your progress carries across both platforms, and achievements are shared between them too.

Now, I don’t expect anyone to know this about me, and if anything, it’d be weird if they did, but I grew up playing RuneScape; in fact, my account is around two decades old. It’s still one of my favorite games of all time, sitting right alongside Halo, so I’m definitely eager to finally give Dragonwilds a go.

But what about you? Has RuneScape: Dragonwilds caught your eye, or is it not really your thing? Let me know in the comments, and be sure to take part in our poll!
