Sony has just announced its next State of Play, which will return on 2nd June – kicking off the Summer Games Fest week with an hour-long showcase that will reveal more information about Marvel’s Wolverine, as well as “news and updates on upcoming PS5 games”. The wording on the PlayStation Blog more specifically reveals “updates, announcements, and gameplay reveals” will follow “a closer look at Marvel’s Wolverine”.

The State of Play broadcast will go live at 2pm PT / 5pm ET / 10pm BST / 11pm CEST. As ever, it will stream on Twitch and Youtube.

It’s not been that long since the last PlayStation State of Play, which showed off a few curious games (like a 2D God of War) whilst delivering more information on more mainstream titles like Marathon, Silent Hill Townfall, and a Metal Gear Solid 4 remake.

This new show will come at an interesting time for PlayStation: just yesterday, we started getting confrimation on reports that Sony will start ditching PC versions of its exclusive games in an effort to drive more people towards its own hardware ecosystem. We’ve also seen price rises for PlayStation Plus, too. Throw in the expected PS5 sales decline, and it paints a pretty grim financial picture for a company that will soon be going toe-to-toe with a newly-emboldened Xbox, readying for the launch of Project Helix.

But these presentations are generally celebratory, and will give PlayStation a chance to flex its muscles and show us what first- and third-party games it has in store for the rest of 2026 and beyond. It feels like this year could be a good time for the ‘summer of games’ festivities, since the indsustry at large is really feeling the squeeze of global financial speculation at the moment.
