As a DMZ main and online defender, I’ve gotten to the point where I can’t find anything left for me in this mode. I’m a pretty good player, I was top 0.2% last season and 0.3% this season, and I average 1.5 kills per game, which is not bad since I play solo a decent amount. But I’ve recently obtained 4 ultra armors and 5 ultra backpacks and it’s making me question why I should keep playing.

I have the best gear but can’t use it. The meta is so broken right now with the J358 2-tapping anyone through any armor. I’ve killed 3 players rocking full ultra sets (6-plate armor) in 1v1s while using epic armor, and it took less than a second. I tried using the stolen 6-plate myself and got 2-tapped the very next game. Theres really no point in even using ultra armor since it functions the same as epic armor in fights with the J358.

Ultra weapons are unreasonably hard to get (and aren’t really that crazy). When I started the season, my goal was to get an ultra Type 19. After 172 matches, I have only found 2 ultra weapon recipes (and I run ship in ~90% of matches), both are for snipers and I don’t even snipe. I’ve gotten twice the required items of 2 ultras and 104 mythics (absurd) but sold half off because I couldn’t even use them. Besides, I already have some of the best weapons in the game so ultra versions aren’t that big of a deal and aren’t even necessarily better. Even with an ultra weapon, you can’t beat the TTK of a stopping-power hammer grip J358.

Whats the point of it all? Even if ultra armor gave some huge advantage in the meta and I kept up the grind to get an ultra AR, what do I get for ”winning”? DMZ money is meaningless except to get more DMZ gear which gets wiped later anyways. This season the only permanent rewards are camos (they’re just okay imo) and epic weapon skins, which take ~5 Kui Ji crates each (aka an hour of perfect runs) for a mid skin on a non-meta weapon. There’s no recognizable status-symbol operator like Kui Ji Jetplate Slayer or Knighr-Legendary to unlock (separate rant but Kui Ji isn’t even a sign of skill anymore, just excessive free time). There is really nothing you can unlock that reflects the time you put into DMZ and your skill.
In summary: There’s no reason to keep hunting Kui Ji and Nikto and there’s no reason to reach legendary rank this season. Theres no reason to get or use ultra gear. There’s no reason to keep trying to get DMZ money. Continuing to play at this point just feels pointless to me. A lot of the Season 0 fun is gone, with people corner camping with J358s and no new operator skins to grind for.
To the people that still play DMZ and have reached this point, why do you keep playing? How is it not just repetitive and pointless to you all? Please share, Id love to be enthusiastic about DMZ again 🫠.
