WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – Gamers, artists, developers and students are invited to Wilmington Input Output’s Spring Game Jam 2026, a free video game creation event that begins today.

Organizers say the event is designed for all skill levels, from experienced software engineers to beginners who have never written code.

Participants can work solo or form teams to build original video games over the weekend, collaborating with programmers, musicians, artists and hobbyists. No prior experience is required, according to organizers.

Community members are also invited to attend a Sunday showcase to play completed games, meet creators and celebrate the projects.

The game jam runs from 5 p.m. Friday, May 8, through noon Sunday, May 10, at CoWorx in the Cargo District. Registration is free and available here.

While the focus is on learning and collaboration, participants can compete for recognition, including best overall beginner project, best overall experienced project and best visual art in beginner and experienced divisions.
