One of the largest fighting game events of the year just wrapped up with Evo Japan 2026, and there was more than top level competition on display.
Since the big tournaments took place largely late at night / very early in the morning for most of us in the West, we’re here to go over all of the notable announcements made at Evo Japan over the weekend.
As we expected from our preview, there was no shortage of reveals at the event, and there were even a few that we didn’t see coming.
Tekken 8 and Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls had new trailers as we knew going in, but that’s certainly not all developers had to show off.
It turns out The King of Fighters 15 and Melty Blood: Type Lumina are not done yet, and there’s also a classic SNK game you can finally play again on modern hardware.
Although they weren’t exactly reveals, we did get to see and know some things about Ingrid’s movelist in Street Fighter 6 and special animations from her demo at the event too.
So let’s go through all of the fighting game announcements from Evo Japan 2026 in the order they were revealed.
After getting a teaser back at the Arc World Tour Finals in March, French Bread had more news for Under Night In-Birth 2 [Sys:celes].
Zohar was revealed as UNI2’s new playable character, and she’ll be coming sometime this Summer.
On top of that, they’ll also be releasing a new balance update for the game to curb power creep and enhance some existing features.
Although we didn’t get to see anything for the new Dead or Alive project, Koei Tecmo did bring something to show the crowd.
Despite saying otherwise before, SNK’s Mai Shiranui and Kula Diamond are indeed returning for Dead or Alive 6: Last Round.
The catch is, however, they’ll need to be purchased separately as DLC again even if players already owned them in the base DOA6 release.
The NeoGeo Premium Selection project is continuing with SNK and Code Mystics bringing back classic games with enhanced features.
World Heroes Perfect was announced this weekend and is out now on Steam with its first home port in basically 30 years.
They’re running a limited time launch sale for the game, which is set to end later this week.
That wasn’t all SNK had for fans either at Evo Japan.
They also revealed Mr. Karate as the next DLC character for Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves.
Instead of Takuma or Ryo Sakazaki, however, it appears that Robert Garcia is now taking up the mantle of the man with the tengu mask, who we should be seeing a lot more of in the coming weeks.
Although Melty Blood: Type Lumina hadn’t received any new content since 2022, it appears the game isn’t wrapped up after all.
Type-Moon Games revealed Melty Blood: Twi-Lumina is on the way as a “renewal” version update for their title with an evolved battle system.
On top of that, they’re adding new characters as well starting with Len, and the big update is said to be coming in early 2027.
That still wasn’t all SNK had for fans this weekend either with their previous title receiving at least one more round of support.
The King of Fighters 15 was revealed to have a new balance update on the way scheduled for July 2026.
All of the game’s 61 characters are going to be adjusted for the first time in a year and a half though it will likely be the final major patch for the game.
As promised, PlayStation and Arc System Works brought a new trailer for Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls that filled out the roster of The Fighting Avengers team.
That included revealing Hulk and Black Panther as the members joining Captain America and Iron Man assembling together.
There has been much discussion of ArcSys going with Shuri’s version of Black Panther instead of her brother, though, it seems she’s bringing some different abilities to the table in Tokon.
Like we previously knew as well, Bandai Namco had a new trailer for Evo Japan this weekend.
Kunimitsu received her gameplay trailer for Tekken 8 to showcase the returning ninja’s prowess.
They also revealed Kunimitsu will launch on May 28, which is the same day Ingrid is coming to Street Fighter 6.
