Wolfgang Krauser is set to take the stage once again in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves very shortly, and he’ll be bringing some nice gifts for those who’ve awaited his return.

SNK revealed the details of the incoming major update for City of the Wolves tonight in their Fatal Fury first anniversary stream.

One of the first things revealed was a new costume for Kain to give him a more regal look and help connect into the game’s new story too.

As they’ve teased a bit before, Ring Out Battles are back from the Real Bout: Fatal Fury games with a new Second South Central stage where Terry is shown getting knocked onto a train.

Like the lane switching battles, ring outs will presumably be contained to only that stage for the time being at least.

One of the most common complaints about City of the Wolves was the game’s clunky and sometimes unintuitive user interface, so that’s changing too.

SNK is completely revamping Fatal Fury’s menus with the main screen now being made up of the Battle Coliseum, South Town Chronicles and the Menu Hub — plus quick shortcuts to queue for online matches in Practice mode.

Battle Coliseum contains VS mode, online matches, Practice and Mission modes while South Town Chronicles features the game’s story modes — including something brand new.

Wolves’ Destiny is a new Story Mode with Wolfgang Krauser’s return to South Town and Kain trying to stop the ambitions of the Emperor of Darkness with apparent different routes you can take at certain times.

They state this new mode contains 15,000 words of fully voice acted dialogue in both Japanese and English along with nearly 150 new illustrations and artwork, so while it doesn’t sound like there are animated cutscenes, the tale should be pretty beefy.

SNK is also making some adjustments to the battle system to allow Smart Style players to use the heavy versions of special attacks.

The update and Krauser will be available April 24 at 12 a.m. PT.

At the same time, SNK will launch Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves Standard Edition containing just the base game for only $20.

The game’s Season Pass 1 is going to be sold separately for the first time as well for $15 while the Season Pass 2 is $20.

And then there’s the Legend Edition that contains everything and is currently on sale for the anniversary.
