Hi everyone,

My partner and I are moving into a small apartment and want a hidden workspace that fully closes up when not in use. We love the idea of a built-in cabinet where a slim panel folds down into a desk, so it just looks like normal cabinetry when closed.

The challenge is that we need monitors for work. Our idea is to mount either an ultrawide or two regular monitors inside the cabinet and pull them out on arms over the fold-down desk. Based on measurements, we’d need around 40–50 cm of reach, maybe more for dual monitors.

I’m not sure if arms with that kind of reach are reliable long-term, especially when fully extended, or if this would put too much stress on the cabinet.

We do have a plan B with a more traditional hidden desk box like these https://pithandstem.com/shop/

But it needs to be 90+ cm wide and that creates layout issues in the room, which is why we’re trying to find another design solution.

Would love input from the professionals here is this actually doable? Are there monitor arms that can handle this kind of reach safely, and if so which ones? Or is this just not a realistic setup long term?
