Minot State dropped a pair of close games to Mary on Thursday, falling 8-7 after surrendering a late lead in game one and 5-4 in 10 innings in game two to move to 13-19 on the season. The Beavers look to bounce back when they return to action April 11 at noon against Concordia-St. Paul.
GAME 1 |
BISMARCK, ND –The Minot State Beavers took a 6-5 lead into the seventh inning, but could not hold on and fell 8-7 to the Mary Marauders Thursday.
Senior Conner Meldrim (3-3) came out of the bullpen for Minot State (13-18, ) and took the loss. The right-hander went two innings, giving up three runs, zero earned, on three hits, allowing one walk and striking out three.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Beavers put runs on the scoreboard first, starting the scoring in the fourth inning. Minot State’s offense started clicking and put up five runs, including a two-run home run off the bat of senior Jake Orthner.
After the Marauders rallied to tie the ballgame at five, the Beavers came back to retake the lead in the sixth inning. Minot State picked up a run on senior Oscar Pegg’s one-out solo home run off of senior Ryan Chamberlain, which brought the score to 6-5 in favor of the Beavers.
Minot State kept Mary without a run before expanding their lead to 7-5 the following inning. The Beavers were unable to hold the lead, as Mary scored three times in the bottom half of the seventh to grab the 8-7 win.

BISMARCK, ND –The Minot State Beavers fell 5-4 in a 10-inning match up to the Mary Marauders Thursday.
Freshman Thomas Mitchell (2-2) took the loss on the mound for Minot State (13-19, ). Freshman Tanner Groseclose was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going one shutout inning while allowing one hit, walking none and striking out one.
Offensively, the Beavers were paced by junior Colton Bagshaw, who went 3-for-5 on the day with a home run and two RBIs. Sophomore Wyatt Toth compiled a noteworthy day at the plate as well, going 2-for-4 with a double and a walk. Junior Nate Hutchison also helped out for Minot State, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding a walk and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 1-0, the Beavers first put runs on the board in the second inning. Minot State scored twice, with one run coming across on Hutchison’s single.
The Marauders then tied the ballgame at two before the Beavers came back to reclaim their advantage in the fourth inning. Bagshaw came across to score the lone run of the inning for Minot State, which brought the score to 3-2 in favor of the Beavers.
Minot State kept Mary scoreless before building their lead to 4-2 in the sixth inning. The Beavers notched a run on Bagshaw’s one-out solo home run off freshman Michael Fagerland. The Beavers were unable to hold the lead, as Mary scored three times over the remaining four innings to grab the 5-4 win.
