This Acer Predator QHD gaming monitor is currently $170 off its list price of $549.99, and coming in at $379.99, which is its best price ever. It’s worth noting that, according to price tracking history via camelcamelcamel, the latest price drop is much more modest than $170, but even so, it’s a very good price for a QD-OLED monitor with a 240Hz refresh rate, AMD FreeSync Premium, and outstanding and accurate color. It’s about as affordable as you can get when it comes to a QD-OLED display, and while it’s not ultra-premium, it is well-suited for those looking for something cost-effective that will deliver lifelike picture quality and is very capable for competitive gaming, too.

QD-OLED panel

This monitor features a QD-OLED display, which combines Quantum Dot and OLED technology for improved color and brightness, while preserving OLED’s superior contrast. Not all QD-OLED monitors are created equal, so let’s take a quick look at what this one brings to the table. First off, you’ve got DCI-P3 99% color with Delta E<2 color accuracy. That’s very impressive, and ensures that colors are very true to life, and allows you to use this monitor for creative work, too. It seemingly doesn’t have a VESA DisplayHDR True Black certification, at least based on the product listing, which may indicate that its brightness isn’t too high, as it would need to be at least 400 nits to get a VESA DisplayHDR True Black 400 certification. It appears to be a lower-end QD-OLED panel, but still one that will deliver excellent contrast and color, and be very good for less well-lit rooms.

240Hz and 0.03ms

This is a decent combination for fast-paced gaming, and in line with the more affordable price point. 240Hz is going to allow you to game at up to 240fps, and 0.03ms response time is going to reduce motion blur and ghosting. This is essential if you’re playing competitively, as it helps you track opponents’ movement on screen more easily, giving you an edge over those who may be experiencing more motion blur.

FreeSync Premium is the middle tier of adaptive sync technology, and it basically introduces low-framerate compensation, on top of its usual anti-stuttering, anti-screen-tearing capabilities. LFC kicks in when framerates drop below the monitor’s bottom refresh rate, and it’s great if you’re playing competitively.

WQHD and 26.5 inches

WQHD, or 1440p, at this size is the sweet spot for many for several reasons. Notably, it makes the most out of WQHD resolution, but keeps pixel density high, giving you super crisp picture quality, without the expense of 4K or a 4K-ready graphics card. On top of that, it’s also small enough to be used for competitive gaming, but not too small that it can’t double up as a workstation or main display for watching content, for instance.

Things to consider

Based on what I’ve seen on the specs here and the price, I’d say this is a lower-end QD-OLED monitor that’s going to be great for those with a decent 1440p setup who are very keen on excellent contrast and color, and usually play either in the evenings or in darker rooms. Personally, I’d say that. If you’re going for a QD-OLED, it’s worth exploring some that have at least VESA DisplayHDR True Black 400 ratings, as this will ensure that peak brightness is at least 400 nits, DCI-P3 is above 95%, and blacks are pretty much zero-nits. You’ll find these typically around $100 more than this, coming in at around $500 in most cases, with options from MSI being particularly good value, and often on sale, too.
