Pixelberry Studios, the developer of the hugely-successful episodic Choices mobile series, has allegedly laid off staff.

Though the studio has not made any public statements at the time of writing, GameDeveloper reports several former staff have shared news of their redundancies on LinkedIn at the end of last week, with one Pixelberry developer writing that “another layoff hit Choices [on Friday].”

It’s unclear how many staff have been impacted, or what support they’ve been offered.

“[I]f you ever see another Pixelberry alum come across your desk, know that they are some of the most brilliant, talented, and hard working people you could hire,” wrote senior game writer, Emi Moore, who was also affected by the cuts.

“They will do amazing things and honestly I’m so sad I won’t get to come in everyday and see what amazing things we can make anymore.”

Series Entertainment acquired story-driven, episodic mobile game studio in July 2024. At the time, Series said the acquisition “signifies Series’ strategy to build out its studio system to deliver a diverse catalog of different genres that leverage its world class development technology, the Rho Engine”, the world’s first “AI-native, multimodal full-stack game creation platform”.

While layoffs were not formally announced at the time, that same month several former Pixelberry devs announced they had banded together to form Candlelight Games.
